tuition fees each year for doctors who are resident citizens of a DfID
    priority country2

  • 50% Scholarships

developed country previously (though applicants who have are welcome to
    apply for the 50% scholarships)
  • Have been accepted onto the MSc
The deadline for scholarship applications is 30 June 2013.
Decisions will be made in the first 2 weeks of July and communicated to
applicants by the end of July.
Decision making

We will use information you supply in the University MSc
application process on your educational background, your personal
statement, and the 2 academic references, and supplement this with:
  • Explain how your attainment of this MSc will benefit your career (250 words)
  • Explain how your attainment of this MSc will benefit the service you work in (250 words)
  • What is it about this course that makes you want to study with the University of Edinburgh? (200 words)
Each question will be scored by four assessors, and
applications with the highest score will be in contention.  Where it is
not possible to discern between high-quality applications, decisions
will be made by lottery.  Priority will be given to those who are in
their first 10 years post-qualifying as a doctor.
Term and conditions
RCPE reserves the right to adjust award of scholarships if we
do not receive applications from suitably qualified candidates for all
scholarships listed.
The scholarships will be paid directly to the University of
Edinburgh Tuition Fees department, at the start of each academic year.
Recipients of all scholarships are expected to obtain passes at
Masters level (50%) each year in order to qualify for the next year of
funding.  Students who pass at 50% or higher and wish to defer for a
year before resuming their studies will be able to defer the subsequent
years of the scholarship at the College’s discretion.  Alternatively,
they may conclude their studies with the Certificate (after one year)
or Diploma (after 2 years).
Students who are funded at any point of the course by a
sponsor (i.e. have their tuition fees paid by an employer, industry or
government sponsor, charity or third-party organisation) are not
eligible to apply.  Scholarship recipients must advise the RCPE if at
any time you obtain funding from another source and stop being
self-funding.  In such cases the RCPE scholarship will be offered to
another student, who is self-funding.
Scholarship recipients will be required to submit an end-of-programme report at the conclusion of their studies.
We would like to publish limited details of scholarship
recipients (name, country, photograph, brief biography) online on
either or both of the RCPE of the University of Edinburgh websites, and
possibly also on printed materials.  If selected, we will seek your
permission to do this.

New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards: Indonesia

Open to eligible candidates from the public, private and civil society sectors.
The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards seek to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to contribute to sustainable economic, social and political development within ASEAN nations.

The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards seek to make a substantial contribution to the ASEAN region’s development by providing opportunities for postgraduate study (i.e. Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree and doctorate/PhD) in New Zealand. New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards (NZ-AS) are part of the New Zealand’s official development assistance to the ASEAN region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), through the New Zealand Aid Programme, delivers this scholarship scheme.
Under the NZ-AS scheme, from total of 182 scholarships to candidates from ASEAN countries, up to 50 scholarships per annum are available for Indonesian applicants. The scholarships are for full time study (see the “Scholarships Benefits’ in the below attached “Country profile” document) at one of the nine eligible New Zealand Institutions (see the list under ‘Where Can You Study’ also in the below attached “Country profile” document).

Who can apply

People who meet the following profile may apply for the NZ-AS scholarships:
The New Zealand Aid Programme welcomes applicants from Indonesia who can demonstrate leadership qualities or potential for future leadership and academic excellence from the public and private sectors including: From civil society, university lecturers, development-focused organisations and charitable foundations. There is also available a special allocation (total of 2 awards) for people working for the ASEAN Secretariat, (see ‘Target Candidates’ below).
All candidates should demonstrate how their proposed course of study will contribute to Indonesia’s overall development strategies. The NZ-AS will in particular prioritise those whose fields of study closely align to Indonesia’s sustainable economic development objectives, especially in the areas of agriculture, renewable energy, (especially geothermal energy) and disaster risk management.
NZ-AS candidates will be preferably under 40 years of age at the time of application for Masters and under 45 years of age at the time of application for PhD. Applicants must also meet the ‘General Eligibility Criteria’ outlined below and in the NZ-AS Indonesia Country Profile, (attached below).

Targeted Candidates

While anyone is welcome to apply, the NZ-AS may prioritise those who intend to study in areas aligned to the New Zealand Aid Programme Country Strategy 2012-2016 key thematic areas:
  1. Geographic area: Individuals from Eastern Indonesia (West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua). Eastern Indonesia is a geographic area of focus in New Zealand’s bilateral development programme in recognition of the complexity of the development challenges faced within these sub-regions compared to most other parts of the archipelago. The New Zealand Aid Programme has had a longstanding association with Eastern Indonesia and we believe it is important to continue that commitment through developing human capital needs so the sub-region can progress and make the most of the opportunities that exist in these provinces for development.
  2. Government departments: Individuals from the Ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, Mineral Resources and Energy, and Marine Resources and Fisheries (including relevant research institutions under those Ministries); Environment; Tourism; Education; Foreign Affairs; National Police; National Agency for Planning and Development; Ministry of Defence (civilian officials); and National Agency for Disaster Management.

In addition, award winners are invited to conduct a research project
of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a
specialist colleague. The project duration of about six to twelve months
may be divided into segments. In addition, further expenditures (such
as travel or language courses) are covered in the context of the
invitation to stay in Germany for research purposes. To support the
collaboration, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation may grant
additional funding of up to EUR 25,000, particularly for participating
in scientific conferences, additional material resources, e.g.,
specialist literature and scientific equipment for the nominee’s own
institute, as well as for involving junior researchers.
An established academic employed by a university or research
institution in Germany must take the initiative to nominate a candidate
for the Georg Forster Research Award. Nominations may also be initiated
by award winners of the Humboldt Foundation working abroad, provided
that the nomination is made jointly with a colleague working in Germany.
Self-nomination is not possible.
In 2013, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is granting up to four Georg Forster Research Awards.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Selection Department,
Jean-Paul-Str. 12, 53173 Bonn, Germany

The selection meeting is scheduled for autumn.

It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure that he or she has
submitted all the necessary documents. Nominations not submitted as a
single entity will take longer to process. The documents required in
addition to the nomination documents, i.e. the confidential statements
by the expert reviewers, can be submitted to the Alexander von Humboldt
Foundation directly, at the same time as the nomination. Subsequently,
independent peer reviewers assess the nominations.

An independent Selection Committee composed of academics from all
disciplines makes the final decision on the nominations received. The
Selection Committee makes its decision solely on the basis of the
nominees’ academic qualifications and the relevance of their research to
the development of their own countries.

Nominees will be notified about the Selection Committee’s decision immediately after the meeting.
